About Sky’s the Limit BBQ Classic.

As a Garden City High School Senior during the 2009-2010 school year; Schuyler Hahn chose to organize a small BBQ contest to fulfill the school’s required career or community based graduation project known as a Buff Project. Schuyler called the contest Sky’s the Limit BBQ; using a little play on his name, but also with an underlying motive - to test and garner the interest in the community.

It exploded!

Several people and organizations that worked with Schuyler on the school project felt the community would support a fully fledged     contest. So, Robert Hahn, Schuyler’s father and BBQ competitor since 2003 under the Flat Broke BBQ banner organized a committee and Sky’s the Limit BBQ Classic was born.

The first contest was held August 27 - 28, 2010 and was a great success seeing 18 teams competing from four states for $7,900.00 in prize money.  The contest this year is scheduled for September 7th - 8th and hopes to see over 25 teams competing for prize money and bragging rights of their superior BBQ.

This years' event is a Saturday - Sunday contest billed as a Double-header with neighboring Scott City Ks Showdown on the Plains on September 6th - 7th.  Teams will be able to compete in two (2) KCBS Sanctioned events in just 3 days only 35 miles apart.

Sky’s the Limit BBQ Classic is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS); is declared a State Championship by Proclamation of Kansas Governor Sam Brownback; and is a participating contest in the Rocky Mountain BBQ Association’s (RMBBQA) Rocky Mountain Cup series.

Your participation and sponsorship are greatly appreciated, and we hope that you will come out and enjoy the event.
